The School Board, after 3 hours of public comment and Board member discussion, unanimously decided to not close any of the three small schools for the ’25-’26 school year.
While the budget shortfall was a key foundation for last night’s discussion. Several attendees made comments about Oppenlander, but Oppenlander was expected to be a major focal point at the meeting.
The Community’s Voice was Heard and Had an Effect!
The Board members all said that as the community’s representatives they were incorporating and including the strong public engagement and outcry in their decision. We need to continue to make our Oppenlander voices and desires heard!
Next Steps
We continue to work with the City on their desire for a public meeting and trying to get the School District to participate in discussions. More to come on how you cab support these efforts later this week.
Meanwhile, please save Monday, February 10th, to attend both City Council and School District Board meetings.
Best regards,
The Friends of Oppenlander team
